Big Art Week: September 13-18

Recreate Vincent Van Gogh's Field of Poppies by picking up a paint kit at any Garland Library this week.

Central Library:

Degas Dancers with a picture of two ballerinas at a ballet bar in the backgroundDegas' Dancers: Edgar Degas, a classical painter of modern life (circa late 1800s), was fond of depicting movement and frequently painted ballet dancers. Color your own dancer at the Central Library.  The finished pieces will be assembled into a collage.

North Garland Branch:

Big Art Day Picasso Selfie purple background with a Picasso painting on a cell phoneTake and Make Picasso Selfie: Pablo Picasso was an influential 20th century artist who helped us see the world in new ways. During his Cubist period he painted objects and people from different views and in an abstract manner. Make an abstract self portrait in Picasso's Cubist style with craft foam materials. Pick up materials at the North Garland Branch Library starting Sept. 15.

South Garland Branch:

the words Painted Bookends in orange against a paint splattered backgroundPainted Book Ends: To celebrate National Library Card Sign-Up Month [September] and Garland's upcoming Big Art Day [September 18] tweens and teens in grades 6 - 12th can pick up a Take & Make kit to paint a bookend at home beginning September 8. They can use their favorite book or fandom for inspiration. Take & Make Kits will be available for pick up at at any of the Garland Libraries. Tweens and teens can register via a Google Form or by calling 972-205-3934. If the bookend is returned by September 30, participants can earn 2 hours community service. 


Walnut Creek Branch:

Big Art Day Pointillism dot art landscape style backgroundPaint like Angelo Franco! Mr. Franco is an Ecuadorian painter specializing in pointilism.  Participants will use tempera paint sticks and daubers to decorate the windows in the children's area.
