Garland Swim Programs

General Information

Classes will meet for 9 days, Monday through Friday the first week and Monday through Thursday the second week, weather permitting. A make-up lesson will only be scheduled if the Aquatics Division has cancelled a class due to weather or mechanical problems. The make-up lesson time will be designated by the pool supervisor.

The "Stingrays" and "Sharks" lessons are taught following a 10 station progression.  Children will be placed in classes appropriate to their skill and age level.  This 10 station program allows children to advance at their own pace with positive reinforcement. Classes are taught by trained swim instructors who may be assisted by trained volunteers.

Station 1:  Instruction begins with water adaptation, breathing-holding/bubble blowing and basic kicking skills

Stations 2 & 3:  Lessons introduce floating, gliding, and kicking

Station 4:  Instruction in the basics of the crawl stroke and other skills necessary to a good foundation for swimming are included in this station.

Stations 5-10:  Each successive station builds on the basic crawl stroke, teaches additional strokes and increases endurance and proficiency.
