How can I keep my trash container from smelling bad in the hot, summer weather?
There are several steps you can take to reduce odors from your automated green container or recycling bins.  Make sure you trash is properly bagged and tied and recyclable food containers are thoroughly rinsed and dried before placing them in your containers.  Put your full containers at your collection site the night before your regularly scheduled pick-up.  Storing full containers in the hot sun can increase the potential for odor.  Finally, try washing out your containers with hot water and a small amount of bleach or baking soda.  Leave the lid open and allow container to dry completely before using.

Why does the City of Garland only recycle plastics #1 and #2 and not all?
Unfortunately, not all plastics are created equally.  Recycling is driven by market demand and certain plastic products are not in high demand.  The city will continue to evaluate its recycling program along with recycling markets and add new materials as it becomes feasible to do so.  In the meantime, always check the container for the appropriately numbered plastic #1 or #2.
